To help ease the stresses encountered by the learners during the COVID 19 pandemic, the Araling Panlipunan Department and the Supreme Student Government spearheaded the DASNHS Summer PASIKLABAN 2021.Learners were not spared in the challenges of this new learning modality. In fact, they were the most vulnerable sector in our society that suffered the ill-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their isolation at home, very limited mobility and social interaction had been affecting their physical, mental and emotional well-being.A destressing program, dubbed as DASNHS Summer PASIKLABAN 2021, was led by the he Araling Panlipunan (AP) Department and the Supreme Student Government (SSG) to help students lessen the strain of home-school activities. This event was a part and parcel of the Project SAGIP (Students’ Adversities Geared towards an Improved Performance ) and would like to : a) lessen the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to the mental and emotional well-being of the students through a fun-filled and entertaining activity; b) provide an avenue to minimize the stresses posed by the current educational platform; c) develop and hone the talent and creativity of the learners, and; d) respond to the call of the Department of Education in providing activities that will promote a mental and emotional well-being of the learners.In her message, Mrs. Alma M. Zamoranos, Head Teacher III and the School’s Officer-in-Charge, first defined the meaning of the word destressing and gave suggested activities to help cope with the boredom and how to face stresses at home. She presented the activities she did once physically, emotionally and mentally exhausted which include doing simple dance steps and singing. She inspired the learners to just get through and continue fighting with the different adversities faced in studying.Engr. Leonora J. Nofuente, the Public Schools District Supervisor of District 10, gave the importance of providing a destressing activity for the learners after a heavy load in school during her inspirational message. She also made mentioned of the importance of singing as it releases hormones like endorphins and oxytocin having powerful effects in enhancing the feeling of connectedness between people. She commended the organizers of the activity.Engr. Nofuente also emphasized the importance of trusting in the mercy of the Lord above as a way of keeping oneself strong and determined in the midst of this global crisis.The Grand Showdown held on April 23, 2021 was attended by a great volume of excited audience which were accommodated in three virtual rooms via Google Meet. The event was attended by the contestants, Engr. Leonora J. Nofuente, Mrs. Alma M. Zamoranos, Head Teachers, Araling Panlipunan Teachers, selected Teachers and SSG Officers, and selected students from 8- Rizal, 9- Narra, 9- Lawan, 10- Diamond, 10- Emerald and Senior High School.
